If you look at some of Old Hollywood pictures, you’ll notice that eyebrows really defined actresses’ faces. Jean Harlow, Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich, Elizabeth Taylor, Ingrid Bergman— these stars were all truly recognizable because of their unique brows.
When it comes to the eyebrow evolution contest, though, there’s no doubt that Joan takes the cake.
From the start of her career in the 20s to the end of her life in the 70s, Joan’s eyebrows were anything but constant. As calendars changed years, so did her brows.
Need more evidence? Here she is from the 20s to the 70s (arranged in order):
I’ll be forever amazed with her eyebrows. In a sense, they’re just like her: always adapting to the needs of a certain decade. Like her brows, she needed to change constantly. Because if she didn’t, her star would’ve probably faded by the end of the silent era.
Cheers to you and your amazing brows, Joanie!
Happy blogging (and fangirling!)
