Q is for Quando Quando Quando

Growing up, my parents always listened to Tom Jones, Engelbert Humperdinck, Paul Anka, Elvis Presley, and other 50s-60s singers, that’s why I’m very familiar with their songs. This is also one of the reasons why I’m more into old music than the usual modern ones. 🙂

This is one of my favorite old songs. A-Z Blogging Challenge participants (and supporters lol), you know what to do!

Quando Quando Quando
Originally sung by Engelbert Humperdinck

Tell me when will you be mine
Tell me quando, quando, quando
We can share a love divine
Please don’t make me wait again
When will you say yes to me
Tell me quando, quando, quando
You mean happiness to me
Oh, my love, please tell me when

Every moment’s a day
Every day seems a lifetime
Let me show you the way
To a joy beyond compare

I can’t wait a moment more
Tell me quando, quando, quando
Say it’s me that you adore
And then darling, tell me when

Every moment’s a day
Every day seems a lifetime
Let me show you the way
To a joy beyond compare

I can’t wait a moment more
Tell me quando, quando, quando
Say it’s me that you adore
And then darling, tell me when
Oh my darling, tell me when
My darling, tell me when

P is for Postmodern Jukebox

Remember my A-Z Blogging Challenge post about the 1940s version of Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance?” Well here’s the group that’s responsible for that sweet, sweet rendition: Postmodern Jukebox.

(Photo: kiss925.com)

Postmodern Jukebox is known for their vintage renditions of famous pop songs. They can turn any modern song into a legit, classic oldie-but-goodie. These are my favorites:

(We Can’t Stop – Miley Cyrus)

(Careless Whisper – Wham!)

(Blurred Lines – Robin Thicke)

(Gentleman – Psy)

(Sk8r Boi – Avril Lavigne)

Well, not all versions are vintage. There’s Avicii’s “Wake Me Up,” Mariachi style, Lorde’s “Royals,” mellow style, and many more. Do visit their website for more information. I’m tellin’ you, they’re great!

O is for Outbreak Missions 2

To those who know me personally (or visit my blog often lol), me participating in fun runs– especially Outbreak Manila— is not something new anymore. I’ve joined the first few Outbreak events, back when their motto was “don’t think, just run.”

But this recent Outbreak was a bit different from those I’ve participated into. It wasn’t just zombies everywhere… it was a quest to find the cure for these flesh-eating flag-stealing zombies.

Last April 5, my sister, college friend, and I ran for our lives in Intramuros, Manila for the Outbreak Missions Operation Stronghold. This was the second part of the mission, with the first one held at Filinvest Alabang. Sadly, I wasn’t able to join the first one because, well, I was broke. Haha.

(My sister, me, and my friend DJ)

Anyway, it was so exciting for us because Intramuros is a very historic place (aside from the fact that DJ and I spent our college years here lol) and it was the perfect venue for a zombie apocalypse. Plus, I got the chance to “dress up” again. Haha.

(Story: I was cooking and went downstairs for a bit to buy some eggs when… the zombies… hahaha)

Everytime I participate in Outbreak, I always dress up as a regular person. On my first time, I ran in pajamas. Second time, I went as a news reporter. For my third time, I decided to don a bathrobe with a towel on my head. Hahaha.

In Outbreak Missions 2, we had to form a group of 10-15 members. Luckily, we found some kids and a young couple. We named our group “Team Rainbow” (I dunno, the kids chose that name lol).

(Team Rainbow!)

Overall, it was a great experience– despite some minor glitches that we experienced. For example, we were supposed to find glow sticks in order to complete a task, but they were already hoarded by the ones before us. Because of that, we were cut early from the story and we never found out the end of it. Sad.

Oh, one more thing: some parts of the adventure were a bit disorganized, like the glow sticks incident… and the part where we almost suffocated inside Fort Santiago (I think?). But other than that, the event was cool.

Pictures speak louder than words, so here are some snaps:

(With them zombies hahaha)

(My dog tag! I still prefer the usual “human survivor” medal, though)

I’m a bit excited for Outbreak Missions 3. I hope it’s more organized and waaaaaay better than the previous ones. Still, kudos to the organizers and brains behind Outbreak Manila! You guys still rock. 😉

(Yup, that’s me. Can’t believe they captured my run (and smile) perfectly. Haha. Photo: Outbreak Manila)

Oh, this is an A-Z Blogging Challenge post, obviously. 😛

Happy blogging (and running)!

N is for Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien

For this A-Z Blogging Challenge entry, I’m gonna share one of my favorite foreign (and classic) songs.

Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien
By: Edith Piaf

Non, rien de rien
Non, je ne regrette rien
Ni le bien qu’on m’a fait
Ni le mal; tout ça m’est bien égal!

Non, rien de rien
Non, je ne regrette rien
C’est payé, balayé, oublié
Je me fous du passé!

Avec mes souvenirs
J’ai allumé le feu
Mes chagrins, mes plaisirs
Je n’ai plus besoin d’eux!

Balayés les amours
Et tous leurs trémolos
Balayés pour toujours
Je repars à zéro

Non, rien de rien
Non, je ne regrette rien
Ni le bien qu’on m’a fait
Ni le mal; tout ça m’est bien égal!

Non, rien de rien
Non, je ne regrette rien
Car ma vie, car mes joies
Aujourd’hui, ça commence avec toi!

Yes, the song is French. It’s a very classic piece. If you don’t know Edith Piaf, then it’s time to Google her and discover her amazing (yet tragic) life! 🙂

By the way, here’s the English translation:

No, nothing of nothing
No, I don’t regret anything
Neither the good things people have done to me
Nor the bad things, it’s all the same to me.

No, nothing of nothing
No! I don’t regret anything
It’s paid for, swept away, forgotten,
I don’t care about the past!

With my memories
I lit up the fire
My troubles, my pleasures
I don’t need them anymore!

The lovers are all swept away
And all of their drama
Swept away forever
I start again from zero

No, nothing of nothing
No, I don’t regret anything
Neither the good things people have done to me
Nor the bad things, it’s all the same to me.

No, nothing of nothing
No, I don’t regret anything
Because my life, because my joys
Today that starts with you!

(Lyrics and translation: frenchlearner.com)

An amazing song by an equally-amazing songstress. Edith Piaf, everybody! *claps*

M is for Milk Oatmeal Cookies

Baking time again! For this A-Z Blogging Challenge post, I’ll share my first attempt to make cookies… using my cupcake pan. Lol.

I don’t have a cookie pan yet, so it was kinda hard to bake. 😛 Anyway, I got the recipe from this website. Easy procedure with basic ingredients. 😉

Milk Oatmeal Cookies

1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups flour
2 cups Quaker Oats (yes, the milk one)
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 eggs

1. Preheat oven to 350F.
2. Sift the baking soda and flour, mixing them really well.
3. Cream butter and sugar.

4. Add the flour mixture. Mix well.

5. Add the eggs, one by one. Again, mix well.

6. Now it’s time to put the oats!

7. Put the vanilla extract to taste.

8. Bake for 8-12 minutes

Aaaand here’s the result:

Baking cookies in a muffin pan is hard. You have to be careful with the measurements, baking time, etc. Fortunately, most of the cookies turned out well. Tasted great too, but too simple in terms of appearance (according to one of my critics lol).

While majority of the batch looked okay, some didn’t look like cookies at all. Hahaha. Here’s how the first ones turned out:

Still… they’re delicious. 😛

Happy blogging (and baking)!

L is for (I) Love (You)

I love you.

Simple words, big meaning. For lovers, the million-dollar question is: do they really need to say it all the time?

Comments vary. For some, the importance of love is not only defined by words, but by actions. But for mushy, hopeless-romantic people, this phrase is just as important as actions.

So… is it really important to say “I love you?”

For me, words don’t mean anything if they’re not accompanied with actions. Nowadays, people say those three sweet words, but they only say it because it’s required or out of habit. Sometimes, those words mean nothing.

But then again, all of us need to hear that phrase from time to time. Actions are great; yes, we see and feel how our loved ones care for us, but deep inside, we all yearn for that gooey-romantic line. Weird, right?

(Photo: lizpearson.com)

I guess the bottomline is this: love is not measured by words alone, but it would be nice to hear, too. It doesn’t mean that you’re not contented with the gestures and all; it’s just that, sometimes, you need verbal reassurance.

So to those who are still arguing about what’s more important, just stop. 🙂  Instead of stressing yourself out, just listen to this song (lol):

Btw, this is, obviously, an A-Z Blogging Challenge entry. 😛

Happy blogging (and loving yeah)!

K is for Kiss

I’m a bit shy, but I’m gonna share it anyway. For this A-Z Blogging Challenge post, let me share a poem that I wrote just a few minutes ago. I’m not really a poem person, but at least I tried. 😛

Under the starry sky
Waiting for the right time
Heart beating so fast
There is no backing out

Sweat trickling
Down my trembling skin
Blood rushing
Through my very veins

As I slowly feel
The passion too strong
Lips burning
On fire, igniting

The time has come
Much has been said
The kiss of a lifetime
This kiss… that will never happen

Happy blogging (and writing creatively lol)!

J is for Just (Tap) Dance

Do you know Postmodern Jukebox? If not, then it’s time to listen to one of their hits!

I have a reserved A-z Blogging Challenge entry about Postmodern Jukebox, so I won’t be talking about them for now.

(Photo: youtube.com)

This is one of my favorite PJ videos. I’m a sucker for anything vintage, and the fact that they successfully transformed Lady Gaga’s song into a 40s tap kind of music is amazing! Tap dancers amaze me. From Gene Kelly to this guy… people who can tap dance rock!

Happy blogging (and tap dancing)!

I is for I’m Left, You’re Right, She’s Gone

Another A-Z Blogging Challenge post about one of my favorite tunes! 🙂

“I’m Left, You’re Right, She’s Gone”

Artist: Giorgio Moroder

Album: From Here to Eternity

Year: 1977

Discovered this song while playing Grand Theft Auto (GTA) Liberty City Stories. It was a normal day, driving around the city… when, suddenly, this song started playing in “my” car (hahaha). I immediately looked it up on Youtube and, after several months, I still can’t get this groovy music out of my head.

(Photo: liveforlivemusic.com)

Listen to this precious music gem guys. If this song doesn’t make you dance a bit, I don’t know what would. 😛

Happy blogging (and listening)!

H is for HIMYM songs

Obviously, I still have the How I Met Your Mother hangover. So for this A-Z Blogging Challenge entry, I’ll just share my top 5 HIMYM songs. 🙂

(Source: perezhilton.com)

Note: The following songs are HIMYM originals. I would post another entry containing songs that were used in the show. Soon.

5. Two Beavers Are Better Than One – Robin Sparkles and Jessica Glitter

Season 6, Episode 9. The gang stumbles upon Robin’s old show “Space Teens,” where she is co-stars with her then-best friend Glitter. In the end, they reunite at a Canadian bar and sing this song after many years.

4. Classic Schmosby Remix -Ted Mosby

Season 7, Episode 1. Ted’s high school best friend Punchy makes this auto-tuned video from Ted’s messed-up best man speech. It’s pretty mean, but I like it.

3.  Nothing Suits Me Like A Suit – Barney Stinson

Season 5, Episode 12. Barney is torn between getting it on with a bartender or preserving his massive collection of suits. The whole thing results to an all-out street performance.

2. You Just Got Slapped – Marshall Eriksen ft. Barney Stinson

(Ugh, can’t find the exact scene for this. Boo)

Season 3, Episode 9. Marshall tags Thanksgiving as “Slapsgiving” for Barney, and puts up a “slap countdown.” Lily postpones Slapsgiving, but at the last few seconds of the countdown, she brings it back and Barney receives the ultimate slap of his life… which brings us to this song.

1. Let’s Go To The Mall – Robin Sparkles

Season 2, Episode 9. Robin hates malls. The gang discovers the reason why: she was a teenage pop star in Canada, with a minor hit that she had to sing in malls ALL THE TIME.

So there you have it. This is just my personal top 5. Do you have yours? Share it with me! 🙂
